Volume may not exist only for quantifying. Its value may lie on a strong intention of a man who planned to make his people lives better.
This project is inspired from a part of “The Rainmaking Story” written by His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej which said, “At that time I looked up at the sky and saw that there were many clouds, but they were all blown pass the arid land. The solution lies on how to make those clouds fall as rain in the locality.” This was the beginning of Royal Rainmaking Project. A project dedicated for people who experienced a lack of water for consumption and agriculture caused by increasing drought. It took many years of planning and experimentation before the project succeed. Rain finally fell down much enough to be collected and kept in reservoirs, ready for people in the locality to draw off for use.

“The Volume of the Water” allows audience to control the brightness of the art piece by pouring water into the container. The data, the volume of rainwater collected in reservoirs in year 2015-2016 recorded by Department of Royal Rainmaking and Agricultural Aviation, is used to define the brightness. The more the water is poured, the brighter the art piece gets.

The digits representing the volume of rainwater produced by Royal
Rainmaking Project may not be just data. Those digits come from a vision of a man who looked up at the sky and did not just see the beauty of clouds, but saw a possibility to make use of them and help his people. Therefore, the volume of the water shown in this project may represent meaningful beauty that can be seen and experience.
